The Ethno Portugal residency is already underway in the village of Arraiolos. This edition brings together 31 young musicians from 13 countries: Brazil, Argentina, Honduras, Portugal, Italy, Croatia, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Algeria, and Cape Verde. With Juan de la Fuente, Teresa Campos, Tiago Candal, and Olmo Marín** as musical mentors, this orchestra is now preparing a repertoire to be performed in three final concerts. This edition features 31 young musicians from 13 nationalities.
The 2025 edition of Ethno Portugal starts on July 31, and this year, it brings together 31 young musicians from 13 different countries: Brazil, Argentina, Honduras, Portugal, Italy, Croatia, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Algeria, and Cabo Verde. Ethno is a program of Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI), and in Portugal, it is hosted by the Associação PédeXumbo in partnership with the Arraiolos City Hall. It’s a unique program designed for young musicians who wish to explore folk and traditional music. The 10-day artistic residency begins on July 31 in the town of Arraiolos, offering participating musicians the chance to learn and teach, both individually and in a personalized way, music from different cultures around the world. They will share their newly acquired knowledge with various audiences, keeping musical traditions alive and renewed. With Juan de la Fuente, Teresa Campos, Tiago Candal, and Olmo Marin as musical mentors, this orchestra will prepare a repertoire for three final concerts. The results of this residency will be showcased in three performances: on August 7, 8, and 10, in Arraiolos, Vila Real, and Évora. Young musicians up to the age of 30 can apply for this residency until April 30! In 2025, Ethno Portugal returns to the beautiful town of Arraiolos, from July 31 to August 11. No matter what your level of musicianship or background, what counts at Ethno is that you are open and willing to learn and share your experience with musicians from all over the world.
